Leading book arts workshops since 1997 for students of all ages has given me unique insights into what works best.  In my classes for teachers, I teach teachers how to teach their students to make books!

I offer workshops of any length for groups of up to 25 teachers. I recommend a minimum of 2 hours; in that length of time we can usually cover three to four different formats and variations (projects vary, depending on the needs of the audience).

You provide the table space; I will bring all materials, and an enthusiastic approach that leaves my students eager to go back to the classroom to share what they've learned with their own students.

What will workshop participants learn?

  • effective tips and tricks for guiding students in bookmaking, gleaned from my years of teaching and binding
  • bookmaking skills that they can immediately put to use
  • how to tailor projects to different age groups - projects can be modified K-12
  • at least four different book formats, depending on length of workshop
  • content ideas (by request)

Book arts are truly cross-curricular; they can be used to promote literacy-based activities and incorporated into any subject area.  In addition to teaching different book structures, I can also guide teachers in ways that they can use book arts to enrich their curriculum.

To ensure that your time is well-spent, I will work within your parameters - time, curriculum, budget - to craft the workshop that will be most effective for your site.  To see comments from teachers and students that have taken part in my workshops, please click here.  To view more samples of books that teachers have created in my classes, please click here.

Please contact me if you're interested in discussing what I can add to your teachers' toolkits!
